In the space of the first few months of 2020, the life of every person on earth has shifted dramatically. The Covid 19 crisis is a health emergency, but it’s also an unprecedented disruption to the economic basis of society and a social experiment the likes of which we’ve never seen before. There will be profound and long lasting implications for society from the ‘lock down’ periods being undertaken by many Western nations right now.
At B&A we jumped at the opportunity to monitor how Irish consumers were reacting to the situation. We wanted to understand, week by week, what was going on among the Irish populace. How they were feeling, what were they up to, what were the opportunities for brands and state bodies to support them through it – and to share this with our client base. But we also want to understand what fundamental shifts are taking place in the consumer conscious during this unprecedented time. It’s impossible to say right now, how much Covid 19 will change things permanently for the Irish consumer, but we want to monitor and assess the shift as it happens, so that we can help our clients prepare for the post-Covid world.
We established a rolling 2 week panel, 25 participants, from a range of demographics and backgrounds across the country. It’s currently in its third wave of participants. We wanted our respondent to tell their stories, posting videos, pictures and answering questions on how they’re responding to the crisis. We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and depth of response and we hope this project will produce clarity and insight on the issues for our clients.
